warranty on exterior projects

Exterior painting is just as much about protection as it is about beautification. So we’ve built in a 3 year warranty on most exterior items. Here’s the nitty-gritty…

Painting that has at least two coats is subject to a 3-year warranty. Yay! Staining that has at least two coats is subject to a 2-year warranty. The warranty covers the cost of labour and material for re-painting/staining only the areas where the paint is failing (and not the entire area). You will automatically be enrolled in the warranty for the portion of the work that you are eligible for. To make a warranty claim, simply call 647-490-4030. Warranty work is scheduled at the discretion of JDavis Painting. The 3-year warranty is valid for up to 36 months following the completion of our work, the 2-year warranty is valid for up to 24 months following completion of our work. The warranty does not cover the following:

  1. Intercoat Peeling. This occurs when the finished coat is adhering to the coat beneath it, but the coat beneath it is no longer adhering to the surface. Paint that is failing due to this does not qualify for the warranty.
  2. Flat Horizontal Surfaces. Any surface that collects rainwater or is in an area where water regularly pools (e.g. railings, steps, treads, floors, sills, etc.) is not covered by the warranty.
  3. Walked-on and Areas of Physical Stress. Areas that receive consistent or intense physical stress (e.g. floors, garage doors that have pucks shot at them, siding that has tools hanging or rubbing on it, etc.) are not covered by the warranty. This also includes cracks that appear due to structure shifting, settling, or temperature fluctuations.
  4. Areas Unprotected from Moisture. Areas that are unprotected from moisture (e.g. fence posts that are sticking out of soil) are not covered by the warranty. The warranty will also be void as a result of water damage caused by pipe/eavestrough/downspout clogging, pipes bursting, or structural integrity issues.
  5. Sub-Standard Preparation. The warranty does not apply to areas that were subject to a lower than standard level of preparation at your request.
  6. Client Supplied Materials. Work that is completed using materials supplied by you is not covered by the warranty.
  7. Wood Knots. Stains caused by wood knots and/or sap seeping from wood knots is not covered by the warranty.
  8. Discolouration. Finishing coats that experience discolouration (e.g. paint fading, rust bleeding through paint, pre-existing rotted wood areas, sap or knots bleeding through wood, etc.) is not covered by warranty.
  9. Substrate Deterioration. If the surface that we’ve painted onto deteriorates (eg. erosion of brick, deterioration of retaining wall, etc) there is no warranty.
  10. Natural Catastrophes. Damage caused by natural catastrophes that no one can prevent such as an earthquake, a tidal wave, a volcanic eruption, a hurricane or a tornado are not covered by the warranty.
  11. Outstanding Balance. If full payment was not made, then the warranty is null and void.
